(this is a typical Dutch treat)

Hmmm chocolate spicey biscuit buttons!

And making them yourself is of course even more fun:)
They may not be as smooth as bought ones, but they are tastier!

Ingredients:

For the dough

  • 300g self-raising flour
  • 180g unsalted butter
  • 150g brown caster sugar
  • 60ml lukewarm water
  • 15g biscuit spices (speculaaskruiden)
  • 15g Best Way Fullcream Milk Powder
  • pinch of salt

For the chocolate:

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 175 degrees C° (fan oven)
  2. Put the self-raising flour, brown sugar, biscuit spices and butter in a bowl with a pinch of salt and mix well
  3. Dissolve the whole milk powder in the lukewarm water and add to the dough
  4. Knead until a smooth dough forms
  5. Take a piece of dough and roll it into a ball the size of a marble and place it on a baking tray lined with baking paper. Press the ball a little flat
  6. Repeat until the dough is finished. (You fill about 2 baking trays with this amount of dough)
  7. Bake the spicey biscuits for about 25 minutes
  8. Remove the baking tray from the oven and leave the spicey biscuits until cool
  9. Mix all ingredients for the chocolate in a bowl (when it is heated up later, mixing will be a lot easier)
  10. Fill a pan with water and bring it to a gentle simmer
  11. Place the bowl with the chocolate mixture on the pan of water and keep stirring until the chocolate mixture is as smooth as possible
Keep the heat low and do not let the mixture boil
  12. Remove the bowl from the pan of water and stir the mixture well
  13. Dip the spicey buttons one by one into the chocolate mixture and then remove them with a fork, so that as much chocolate as possible remains on them
  14. Put them back on the baking paper or on a plate if the baking tray does not fit in the refrigerator
  15. Let them cool down and set overnight in the refrigerator

Enjoy…!
